On October 24, 2023, Ferrari revealed its latest masterpiece, the SP-8, a distinguished addition to the exclusive One-Off series. As part of Ferrari's Special Projects program and under the visionary design of the Flavio Manzoni-led Ferrari Styling Centre, the SP-8 stands as a mid-rear-engined V8, derived from the F8 Spider platform, inheriting its layout, chassis, and engine. This bespoke creation exemplifies the zenith of Prancing Horse customization, meticulously crafted to meet the precise wishes of its Taiwanese client, who considers the number 8 auspicious in Chinese culture.
The most distinctive aspect of the SP-8 is its roofless design, transforming it into a purebred two-seater roadster, offering an exhilarating open-air driving experience. The absence of a retractable hard top allowed for an extensive redesign of the rear section, creating a bold two-tone contrast in color and materials from the unpainted carbon-fiber front to the tail. The car's aesthetic interplays its volumes, which converge seamlessly, while a central matte black area houses functional components such as side air intakes and ducts for intercoolers.
The front of the car boasts a striking full-width cast aluminum grille, featuring a unique strake theme and optimized angling for enhanced aerodynamics. This collaboration between the Ferrari Styling Centre and the aerodynamics team is a testament to the meticulous design process.
Inside, the central console has been modified to house F1 gearbox commands, accentuating the SP-8's performance-oriented character. The interior finish combines Navy Blue Alcantara with gradient effect cloth, complementing the matte Argento Micalizzato color and carbon-fiber elements.
The SP-8 made its debut at the Mugello Circuit and will later be displayed at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, showcasing the epitome of Ferrari's exclusivity and customization.
The Special Projects program allows clients to work closely with Ferrari's designers to create unique, one-of-a-kind models. This collaborative process, from idea to realization, typically takes around two years and results in a Ferrari that embodies the highest standards of excellence and exclusivity.
