XEV

China

XEV Ltd, short for X-Electrical Vehicle, is an innovative Italian-Hong Kong electric microcar manufacturer founded in 2016. Headquartered in Hong Kong with a styling office in Turin, Italy, XEV emerged from the collaboration of Chinese engineer Tik Lou and a team of experienced designers, including those from the FCA group.

The company's flagship model, the XEV Yoyo, epitomizes their vision of urban mobility. Designed in Turin and produced in Shanghai, the Yoyo is a compact, electric city car classified as an L7e vehicle. It features a unique approach to automotive design, utilizing 3D printing for 57 of its components, including enhanced nylon and thermoplastic materials. The only non-3D-printed parts are the chassis, seats, and glass components.

The Yoyo boasts a top speed of 89 km/h (55 mph) and a range of up to 150 km (93 mi). It includes a replaceable battery pack for quick swaps and a front charging port compatible with both home and type two chargers. This design ensures minimal downtime and adaptability for urban drivers.

Despite facing financial challenges, including allegations of insolvency in early 2024—claims that XEV has denied—the company has continued to advance its innovative approach to electric mobility. The XEV Yoyo was officially unveiled in September 2021 at the IAA in Munich and has also been showcased at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, highlighting its commitment to redefining city transportation.
