Railton, a distinguished British automotive brand, originally flourished between 1933 and 1940, blending elegant English coachwork with powerful American engines. Founded by Noel Macklin and named after the speed record designer Reid Railton, the marque quickly gained a reputation for high-performance vehicles.

The brand’s inaugural model, the 1933 Railton Terraplane, featured a Hudson straight-eight engine and a refined British body, achieving remarkable speed for its time. This was followed by the 1935 Railton 8, which improved on performance and style, and the 1937 Railton Cobham, which offered a smaller, more compact option. The 1938 Railton 10 hp, built on a Standard Flying Nine chassis, rounded out the pre-war lineup.

Despite its early success, Railton ceased production in 1939 due to the war. Attempts to revive the brand post-war were unsuccessful until a brief revival in 1989. The Railton Motor Company, led by designer William Towns, reintroduced the marque with models like the F28 Fairmile and F29 Claremont, featuring modern Jaguar XJS components with bespoke aluminium bodies. However, the revival was short-lived, ending in 2000.

Today, Railton remains a symbol of classic automotive innovation, merging historic design with modern engineering achievements.
