Nyvrem Cars, a short-lived British automobile venture, was the brainchild of Mervyn Edwards, who cleverly derived the name "Nyvrem" by spelling his first name backwards. Established in 1986 in Weston-super-Mare, Avon, Nyvrem Cars was born out of Edwards' dissatisfaction with the existing kit cars available at the time. He envisioned creating a unique vehicle that combined his automotive aspirations with the versatility of Ford Cortina running gear.
The Nyvrem car was a 2-seat coupe featuring a space frame chassis, designed to accommodate a variety of engines. It was typically fitted with a center-transverse engine configuration, though there was also provision for Ford V6 engines mounted longitudinally. Despite its ambitious engineering, the car’s styling was criticized, leading to its withdrawal from the market for further development. Only two Nyvrem cars were ever produced, and the project was ultimately abandoned, leaving the Nyvrem as a rare and obscure footnote in automotive history.
