Hongqi, meaning "red flag" in Chinese, is a prestigious luxury car brand owned by the FAW Group. Launched in 1958, it is the oldest Chinese passenger car brand. Initially serving high-ranking government officials, Hongqi models became a symbol of elite status, with cars like the CA72 and CA770 designed for dignitaries and party leaders. After a hiatus in production, the brand was revived in the 1990s and later expanded to offer a range of vehicles, including luxury sedans and taxis. In recent years, Hongqi has experienced significant growth, particularly from 2018 to 2021, and is now focusing on ultra-luxury and electric vehicles under its new global strategy.
